Fed Raises the Fed Rate by .25% In 7 years

After a year of speculation, the Federal Reserve raised the federal reserve rate from .25% to .5% on December 16, 2015. The Fed has not raised the rate in more than 7 years due to the financial crisis. This hike in rate indicates that the our once weak economy has been on the mend. The Reserve intends to raise the rate incrementally in 2016-2018.

How does this impact mortgage rates? While the fed rate does not directly move in parallel with mortgage rates – the folks at Freddie Mac project that the average 30 year mortgage could move up to 5% by the end of the year. See link for a graph of interest rates for a 30 year fixed loan from the last decade.

Light And Airy

It’s safe to say that most people value light in their home. Here are some quick solutions to making your home a bit more airy. Here are my top four tips:

1. Swap to glass doors.
2. Add mirrors and reflective finishes.
4. Don’t overcrowd your home with too many objects.
3. Paint it light – the brightness will help bounce the light around.

More tips to keeping it light and airy.

Breaking News: Roy Choi and David Patterson’s LocoL Coming Soon To Oakland Uptown!

I am an admirer of Los Angeles son, Roy Choi. He was the man who put food trucks on the map with his Kogi trucks in LA back in 2008.

He has been on a two year long journey with partner David Patterson to make healthy quality fast food available to the masses via the project LocoL.

Originally, they were planning on the to the Tenderloin however due to some logistical challenges – their plans are to bring the first SF LocoL to the old Plum location in the Uptown neighborhood. No date has been set.

Monthly Picks: Noodle Soups That Warm

I am making the ‘cold’ weather my personal excuse for having one bowl of noodle each week. This is my way of hitting the pause button or dreaming about my next trip to South East Asia.  These are two spots in Oakland that I frequent – Enjoy!

Left: Pho (Pho King)
At the heart of “New Chinatown” on International Boulevard – just 7 blocks east of Lake Merritt — is my favorite noodle shop –  Pho King. I have been coming to this spot regularly for the past five years. I love the care that the folks here put into these soups – I’ve seen them dip bowls into hot water to help preserve heat. The Pho broth is very herbal with notes of anise.  Don’t miss the equally as good – but bold lemon grass pork flavored  – noodle soup brother Bun Bo Hue. The servers here have the warmest smiles to match. This place makes the East Bay feel like home.Right: Pho Ga (Huong Que Cafe)

Right from the corner of Pho King is another classic spot I frequent – Huong Que Cafe. I never stray from the regular. I typically order the bowl of soup with the silky medium thick “ho fun” noodles. I split half a chicken with Phil – on the bone full with heart and liver — with the perfect complimentary condiment –  green onion ginger dipping sauce. The yellow skinned chicken is breed with meatier profile with less fat of a tofu texture.  It’s kind of simple and kind of wonderful.

Hello 2016.

January is here. It’s time to take action. Live it out and experiment with ideas you have been brewing over yet afraid to try. Move incrementally towards something each day.

Here are my 2016 plans – phrase by phrase:
A few more races, a few more books, and a few more good relationships. More heart and more soul. More houses!
