Alameda Navel Base Development

I head to the vast Alameda naval base A LOT - sometimes twice a day. My gym is there (the Bladium) as well as 3 breweries and a winery. The Alameda naval base is in a 878 acre area and physically makes up one third of the Alameda Main Island. It has been a retired naval base since 1997.

For years, there has been talk of developing this area. The big 15 year plan is to construct 800 house units in the form of apartments/condos/townhouses with 600,000 square feet of commercial space. For the moment, they are working on building out 130 affordable units next to a new Alameda ferry terminal nearby my gym and our two newest breweries. I am a bit of a pragmatist - while I am a realtor who enjoys finding out about more housing stock -- I know it is important that energy is devoted to thinking about how to create exits for leaving the island. More to come!
